Graduate
Students performing graduate-level research in Human-Computer Interaction + Design (HCI+D) come from a variety of backgrounds and receive rigorous training drawing on computer science, social science, and design methodologies. They receive training in a diverse set of quantitative and qualitative methods, experience designing and implementing new technologies, practice incorporating the results of empirical research into these technologies, and preparation for the widest range of academic and industrial jobs.
HCI+D graduate students are often enrolled in the Technology and Social Behavior (TSB) joint PhD program in Computer Science and Communication Studies, the joint program in Computer Science + Learning Science (CS+LS), and Computer Science. Many HCI+D students are also enrolled in the Design Research Cluster.
In addition, PhD students also organize the PhD Book Club within HCI+D, which meets on a weekly basis to discuss books and other works that offer critical perspectives.
