Liz Gerber Welcomed to the ACM SIGCHI Academy Class of 2025

Congratulations to center co-director Dr. Liz Gerber on her incredible achievement of being awarded entry into the ACM SIGCHI Academy Class of 2025!
The CHI Academy recognizes exceptional leaders in the Human-Computer Interaction field for their scholarly achievements, research excellence and contributions to society. Dr. Gerber is being recognized for her significant contributions to the field and her dedication to using design for social impact.
Dr. Gerber’s research helps organizations design and implement new technologies to effectively collaborate. Her work explores how emerging technologies enable new ways to share and create new information with diverse stakeholders to solve complex problems; how the new sources of information change how people work and how the shifts in the way people work changes the role of the organization.
Dr. Gerber is also being recognized for her leading scholarship on collective innovation and design education. Collective innovation involves large groups of people, often unfamiliar with design practices, collaborating to solve problems. Design education, closely related, explores effective methods for teaching design to students.
Dr. Gerber’s work is driven by a commitment to solving problems with positive social outcomes. She is the visionary founder of Design for America, an organization dedicated to leveraging design innovation for social good. Her work continues to inspire and shape the future of design education and collective innovation.
